Job Description

Join Linus Health: Shape the Future of Brain Health as a Staff Software Engineer

Linus Health, a dynamic digital health innovator based in Boston, is revolutionizing brain health on a global scale. We’re pioneering the early detection and intervention of cognitive and brain disorders by merging cutting-edge neuroscience, clinical expertise, and advanced AI. Join our team of 100+ dedicated professionals and play a key role in empowering individuals to live longer, healthier lives. We’re seeking a talented and driven Staff Software Engineer to contribute to our next phase of accelerated growth.

Your Mission: Lead Mobile Innovation and AI Integration

As a Staff Software Engineer, you’ll be at the forefront of our mobile strategy, guiding the technical direction of our iOS (Swift) and React Native applications. You’ll design and build reusable component libraries, championing high standards in quality, performance, and accessibility. You will also lead the charge in implementing AI-assisted engineering workflows to accelerate development and integrate groundbreaking AI-powered visualizations that provide invaluable insights for clinicians and patients. This pivotal role demands collaboration across teams and a dedication to our core mission.

What You’ll Achieve: Key Responsibilities

  • Architectural Leadership: Own the mobile architecture across iOS (Swift/SwiftUI/UIKit) and React Native, ensuring modularity, performance, security, and observability.
  • Component Library Development: Create and maintain reusable mobile component libraries, aligning with design-system principles, theming, accessibility, localization, and dark mode.
  • AI-Enabled Feature Delivery: Ship innovative AI-enabled features that visually surface insights, responsibly incorporating privacy-by-design and auditable outputs.
  • Engineering Excellence: Raise engineering standards through robust testing strategies (unit/snapshot/e2e), CI/CD for mobile, OTA strategies, release automation, crash analytics, and telemetry.
  • Mentorship and Collaboration: Mentor and unblock engineers; drive clear design documentation, ADRs, and code reviews; partner deeply with Product, Design, Data Science/Medical, and Security teams.
  • Cross-Team Initiatives: Lead cross-team initiatives focused on performance, reliability, offline/edge patterns, network/data sync, app startup time, and bundle size reduction.
  • AI-Assisted Workflow Advocacy: Champion AI-assisted workflows to boost delivery speed and quality, including intentional prompts, verification practices, and secure usage guidelines.
  • Data Integration: Collaborate with Data Science/Medical teams to integrate model outputs safely and clearly into the UI, including uncertainty and context visualization.

What You Bring: Qualifications We’re Looking For

We’re seeking a highly skilled and experienced engineer with a passion for mobile development and a commitment to excellence.

Must-Have Qualifications:
  • Experience: 10+ years of software engineering experience with significant time in mobile; 5+ years building and shipping iOS apps in Swift; 3+ years with React Native at scale.
  • iOS Expertise: Expert in Swift/SwiftUI (and/or UIKit), Xcode tooling, Instruments, and Apple platform fundamentals (background tasks, permissions, Keychain, App Store Connect, TestFlight).
  • React Native Proficiency: Strong React Native fundamentals (bridge/native modules, performance profiling, Hermes, Metro/bundling, OTA, navigation).
  • Component Systems: Proven track record designing reusable component systems (design tokens, accessibility, theming, API ergonomics, documentation).
  • AI Integration: Hands-on experience using AI to accelerate coding (scaffold code/tests, refactors, docs) and productizing AI in-app (safe prompts, evaluation, guardrails).
  • Mobile Data Expertise: Depth in mobile data flows (REST/gRPC, GraphQL, streaming), offline-first sync, error handling, and app state management.
  • Quality Assurance: Quality mindset: unit/UI/e2e testing (XCTest, snapshot testing, Detox), monitoring, crash analytics, metrics/SLOs.
  • Security and Privacy: Security and privacy literacy suitable for healthcare contexts (e.g., PII/PHI handling patterns, least-privilege, secure storage).
  • Communication Skills: Clear technical communication: design docs, ADRs, tradeoff analysis, and stakeholder alignments.
Nice-To-Have Qualifications:
  • Healthcare Experience: Experience in digital health or clinical workflows; familiarity with regulated environments.
  • Data Visualization: Data visualization skills (e.g., Charts on iOS, D3/Reanimated/Skia in RN) and communicating uncertainty.
  • Android/Cross-Platform: Native Android familiarity (Kotlin) or cross-platform build/release expertise.
  • Design System Ownership: Prior ownership of design systems or component libraries used across multiple apps/teams.
  • On-Device ML: Experience with on-device ML or efficient edge inference patterns.
  • Application Architecture: Experience architecting B2B and Consumer facing applications

Living Our Values: How You’ll Contribute to Our Culture

At Linus Health, we’re guided by a set of core values that drive our actions and shape our culture. We’re looking for individuals who embody these values and are passionate about making a difference.

In this role, you will:

  • Be Real: Communicate tradeoffs, risks, and results candidly โ€“ early and often.
  • Be Wise: Select architectures and AI use cases with evidence, measurement, and clear mitigations.
  • Be Noble: Prioritize privacy, safety, and clinical trust in every feature we ship.
  • Be a Team: Elevate others through mentoring, helpful reviews, and excellent documentation.
  • Be Masters of Our Craft: Set exemplary standards for mobile quality, performance, and maintainability (including AI-assisted workflows).
  • Think Big and Act Bold: Lead step-change initiatives (e.g., shared component libraries, AI-driven visualization) with staged rollouts and measurable outcomes.
