The Opportunity: Federal Environmental Project Manager

We are actively seeking a skilled and experienced Project Manager to lead federal environmental investigation and remediation projects. This role offers the flexibility to work remotely within the New England area or from our offices in Chelmsford, MA, Manchester, NH, or Providence, RI.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and direct professional and technical staff to ensure the successful completion of complex environmental projects, particularly those involving CERCLA and federal facilities.
  • Oversee all phases of projects, including RI/FS (Remedial Investigation/Feasibility Study) and Remedial Design, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements.
  • Manage Five Year Reviews for remediated sites.
  • Cultivate strong client relationships by effectively communicating technical information, cost considerations, and project schedules.
  • Expertly manage project invoicing, cash flow, and budget tracking to ensure financial health.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive project schedules to optimize efficiency.
  • Analyze data, interpret findings, and ensure compliance with relevant federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Prepare work plans and organize project studies.
  • Supervise junior and mid-level staff, providing guidance and mentorship.

Qualifications

We are looking for a candidate who possesses the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Engineering, or a related field, with 6+ years of relevant experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of direct experience as a Project Manager.
  • Proven experience as a client-facing professional with business development ambitions.
  • Professional License (PE, PG) in New England states.
  • 10+ years’ experience in environmental remediation (soil, water, sediment, PFAS, munitions) project management.
  • Master’s degree in Geology, Environmental, Civil, or Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with regulator and stakeholder negotiations.
  • Successful track record of managing environmental projects for Federal clients (USACE, Air Force, Navy, EPA).
  • In-depth working knowledge of RCRA and CERCLA processes.
  • Proven ability to lead teams and effectively schedule staff and resources.
  • Superior communication, writing, editing, and reporting skills.
  • Experience in preparing proposals, cost estimates, schedules, and change orders.
  • Demonstrated interest in business development.
  • Experience leading teams in executing Site Investigations, Remedial Investigations, Feasibility Studies, Risk Assessments, and Treatability Studies for federal environmental projects.
