About the Role: Senior Backend Engineer, Seller Experience

We’re seeking a talented and driven Senior Backend Engineer to join our Seller Experience team. In this pivotal role, you will be at the forefront of building and scaling the robust backend systems that empower our community of sellers on Tilt. Working within a highly autonomous squad, you’ll architect and develop the core infrastructure and services that make selling on our platform seamless and successful.

Key Responsibilities:

• Architecting Scalable Systems: Design, develop, and implement highly performant and scalable backend services and APIs supporting a range of seller-focused features, from sophisticated shipping integrations to innovative AI-powered tools.
• Technical Leadership & Innovation: Lead the creation of elegant, maintainable, and reliable solutions for complex technical challenges unique to a dynamic seller platform. Ensure optimal performance and system resilience.
• Cloud Infrastructure Development: Build, manage, and optimize the cloud infrastructure supporting our rapidly expanding seller ecosystem, focusing on high availability, reliability, and efficient scalability on AWS.

Our Technology Stack

We leverage a modern, dynamic technology stack to build our platform:

• Backend: Primarily NodeJS with Express.
• Frontend: Built with VueJS and TypeScript, using Vite and Webpack.
• Mobile: Native development for iOS (Swift, SwiftUI, UIKit) and Android (Kotlin, Jetpack Compose), with a shared layer utilizing KMP (Kotlin Multiplatform).
• Infrastructure & Tools: Extensive use of AWS services, GraphQL, Cypress (for testing), NPM, and more.

What You’ll Bring

We’re looking for an experienced engineer with a solid foundation in backend development and a passion for building scalable systems:

• Proven experience designing, developing, and deploying highly scalable backend applications and APIs in production environments.
• Deep expertise within the NodeJS ecosystem.
• Extensive hands-on experience with AWS services and infrastructure management.
• Strong understanding of database design, query optimization, and management, particularly with relational databases.
• A proactive and ambitious problem-solver mentality, thriving in dynamic, fast-paced settings.
• Excellent technical communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within autonomous teams.
• A genuine passion for empowering users (in this case, sellers!) through technology.

Bonus Points If You Have:

• Experience with frontend technologies (VueJS, React).
• Expertise with the NestJS framework.
• Proficiency in GraphQL API development.
• Experience with AWS CDK (Typescript).
• Knowledge of document databases (MongoDB, DynamoDB).
• Experience with AWS Data Pipelines (Glue, SageMaker).

We offer flexibility:

• Remote work is welcome, provided you are located within 2 hours of UK time (GMT/BST).
• Alternatively, you can join us at our London office in Canary Wharf, with a hybrid approach (most engineers are currently in 3 days a week).
