About Consensys
Join Consensys, a leading force shaping the future of Web3 and blockchain technology. Founded by Joe Lubin, a co-creator of Ethereum, we’ve been pioneering innovation in this space since 2014. Our mission is simple yet ambitious: to unlock the collaborative power of communities by making the decentralized web universally easy to access, use, and build on.
Through our ecosystem of products – including the widely used MetaMask platform, essential infrastructure like Infura and Linea, security tools like Diligence, and our NFT toolkit Phosphor – we empower users, creators, and developers. We believe the instinct to build is universal, and we champion this by providing the tools and infrastructure needed to create the world you want to see.
Working at Consensys means you’ll be on the cutting edge, scaling platforms to onboard billions of users and millions of developers. You’ll be constantly challenged, learning new concepts from a network of builders deeply embedded in the Web3 ecosystem.
About the MetaMask Engineering Team
The MetaMask team is dedicated to fostering a thriving engineering organization. We prioritize the well-being of our engineers, empowering them with high trust and autonomy to do work they are genuinely proud of and enjoy. We cultivate an environment that facilitates seamless collaboration, clear communication, and strong camaraderie across teams.
Building a diverse engineering team, inclusive of people from all backgrounds, is fundamental to our ethos. We believe that working on MetaMask should be a catalyst for significant career growth and continuous learning, pushing you to stay at the top of your game.
The Role: Release Engineer
We are seeking a dedicated Release Engineer to join our MetaMask team and become the lynchpin for delivering our critical Mobile (iOS & Android) and Browser Extension applications to the world. This is a pivotal, hands-on, team-facing role focused squarely on enhancing our delivery velocity while ensuring impeccable build quality and release consistency across platforms.
Crucially, this is not a traditional DevOps position centered solely on infrastructure management. You will be embedded within engineering teams, acting as a partner who understands the intricacies of the codebase and the nuances of product delivery.
Your Impact: What You’ll Do
As a Release Engineer on the MetaMask team, you will:
• Be the go-to expert supporting engineering, QA, and product teams with day-to-day release mechanics, including reviewing code cherry-picks, managing builds, validating artifacts, and coordinating release activities.
• Own, maintain, and optimize our CI/CD pipelines utilizing tools like Bitrise, GitHub Actions, and CircleCI.
• Drive automation initiatives, continuously improving build, test, and release workflows through scripting (Bash, TypeScript/JavaScript, etc.) and advanced GitHub Workflows.
• Proactively monitor build health, troubleshoot issues, and clear blockers to ensure a smooth delivery pipeline.
• Guarantee proper versioning, tagging, and secure signing for builds across mobile and browser extension platforms.
• Manage the entire store submission process and track releases across the App Store, Play Store, and various Extension stores (Chrome, Firefox, Edge).
• Partner closely with QA engineers to seamlessly integrate and validate unit, UI, and E2E tests within the release workflows.
• Champion clear documentation and maintain essential checklists for all release processes.
• Facilitate safe and controlled feature rollouts and rollbacks using systems like LaunchDarkly, in collaboration with engineering and product teams.
What You’ll Bring: Skills & Experience
We’re looking for a skilled Release Engineer with a passion for software delivery pipelines. Your qualifications should include:
• A minimum of 3 years of dedicated experience in release engineering, CI/CD, or build/release coordination (specifically focused on product delivery, not just infrastructure).
• Proven ability to support cross-functional teams and experience reviewing or managing production code branches (e.g., cherry-picking).
• Deep practical experience with key CI/CD tools including Bitrise, GitHub Actions, CircleCI, and working with GitHub Runners and YML-based systems.
• Strong command of scripting and automation using languages like Bash, TypeScript/JavaScript.
• Expertise in various Git workflows (like trunk-based or Git Flow) and solid understanding of semantic versioning.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to effectively support fast-moving, agile engineering teams.
Nice-to-Haves: Skills That Stand Out
While the above is essential, candidates who bring experience in the following areas will particularly stand out:
• Experience with feature flag systems like LaunchDarkly.
• Familiarity with concepts like staged rollouts, crash reporting, and the specifics of app and extension store compliance processes.
• Knowledge of browser extension policies (e.g., Content Security Policy – CSP, permission management).
• Hands-on experience with iOS build and release pipelines (using tools like Fastlane, Xcode, TestFlight, App Store Connect).
• Hands-on experience with Android build and release pipelines (using tools like Gradle, Play Console).
• Experience building or releasing browser extensions (familiarity with manifest v2/v3, WebExtension APIs, and store specifics for Chrome, Firefox, Edge).
• Contributions to open source projects, particularly around release tools, automation frameworks, or documentation.
Don’t Meet Every Single Requirement?
Don’t let that stop you from applying! We are genuinely passionate about building a diverse team and recognize that valuable skills come from many places. If you believe you have transferable skills and the drive to thrive in our dynamic, remote-friendly, start-up environment, we strongly encourage you to apply. Use your cover letter to highlight how your unique background aligns with this opportunity. We value diverse perspectives and are open to being challenged on our initial thinking about who is the perfect fit for this role.
