Product Designer
Job Description
About UpCodes
The world of Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) faces immense complexity and costly inefficiencies, with billions lost annually to rework. At UpCodes (proudly a YC S17 company), we are dedicated to transforming this landscape. We provide a comprehensive compliance and product research platform that streamlines the process from design conception to construction completion.
Our mission is simple yet impactful: deliver intuitive, user-friendly tools that empower designers and builders to spend less time navigating complex regulations and product specifications, and more time focusing on their craft. We make a tangible, real-world impact, supporting the construction of the homes, schools, hospitals, and offices that shape our communities. Join a team trusted by over 900,000 monthly active users who rely on UpCodes to navigate the complexities of building codes and product information.
About the Role: Product Designer
This isn’t just a design job; it’s an opportunity to play a strategic, pivotal role in a company making a real difference in the AEC industry. We’re seeking a seasoned Product Designer ready to blend high-level strategic thinking with hands-on design execution. Usability and exceptional design quality are cornerstones of the UpCodes platform and key differentiators in the market. As a core member of our team, you will be instrumental in maintaining and extending this critical advantage.
What You’ll Do
As our Product Designer, you will be the architect of key user experiences, owning the end-to-end design lifecycle for significant product areas like our innovative AI Copilot and the comprehensive Products Library. You’ll shape not just features, but our evolving design culture.
You’ll translate complex problems into clear, intuitive interfaces, focusing relentlessly on UX/UI excellence, usability, accessibility, and pixel-perfect polish from initial exploration through successful launch.
Your design decisions will be informed by deep user understanding. You’ll proactively conduct qualitative and quantitative user research, turning insights from interviews and data into actionable strategies that solve real user pain points and validate your designs.
Collaboration is at the heart of how we build. You’ll partner closely with Product Managers and Engineers, providing design leadership and input from early planning stages, through collaborative design explorations, and offering guidance during implementation. You’ll also work alongside our Marketing team to ensure visual alignment and a cohesive brand experience across the website and product.
Expect to take significant ownership of projects and product areas, driving them forward independently while remaining tightly connected and aligned with the broader team vision and goals.
Beyond specific features, you’ll contribute to the evolution of our design practice itself, helping refine our design system, introduce new conceptual frameworks, and continuously improve our processes.
Who You Are
We’re looking for a seasoned design professional with a passion for tackling challenging problems and making a real impact. Ideally, you bring:
Proven Experience: At least 5 years of experience designing high-quality, responsive web applications, with a strong portfolio showcasing your process and impact.
B2B SaaS Expertise: Familiarity and experience working within the dynamics of B2B SaaS products.
Usability Champion: You possess a strong, innate intuition for usability and accessibility, and can clearly demonstrate how this perspective influences and shines through in your past work.
Insightful Researcher: You are confident running user research sessions and interviews, skilled at drawing meaningful insights from both quantitative and qualitative data, and effectively translating them for cross-functional teams.
Self-Motivated & Accountable: A true self-starter with excellent time management. You can take ownership and drive projects forward independently while being a collaborative and positive team member in a fast-paced environment.
Design Curious: You have a genuine curiosity for design, a passion for refining your craft, and an interest in emerging perspectives, techniques, and tools.
Action-Oriented: You have a bias for action and iteration, comfortable with the build-measure-learn loop – you ship, learn, and refine quickly.
Design System Contributor: Experience working with design systems is important (experience helping build or scale one is a significant bonus!).
Comfortable with Complexity: You are skilled at designing for complex or information-dense tools and specialized fields, able to bring clarity and simplicity to intricate workflows.
