The Opportunity: Senior Infrastructure Engineer

We’re seeking a talented and experienced Senior Infrastructure Engineer to join our Infrastructure Engineering team. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in designing, building, and maintaining the core infrastructure solutions that power and accelerate Underdog’s critical data systems and workflows. This is a chance to have a significant impact on the scalability, reliability, and performance of our rapidly evolving platform.

What You’ll Build & Own

As a key contributor, you will:

• Lead the design, development, and upkeep of our core data infrastructure systems, including robust distributed storage, efficient distributed compute, and high-throughput data streaming infrastructure. Your focus will always be on ensuring scalability, reliability, and security.
• Champion developer velocity by creating best-in-class tooling, resilient data systems, and streamlined automation workflows that empower our engineering teams.
• Engage deeply with engineers and data scientists to fully grasp their system requirements and translate them into elegant, scalable technical solutions.
• Implement and refine sophisticated monitoring, alerting, and observability strategies to proactively ensure the health, performance, and data quality of our platform.
• Continuously research and evaluate emerging data technologies and trends, focusing on iterative implementation to keep Underdog’s data systems at the cutting edge.

What You’ll Bring

We’re looking for a seasoned professional with a proven track record:

• Minimum of 5 years of experience building and managing complex distributed computing and distributed data storage infrastructure within major cloud environments such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• At least 5 years of hands-on expertise with containerization and orchestration technologies, including Kubernetes, ECS, or Docker.
• Strong familiarity with industry-leading data streaming frameworks like Apache Kafka, Apache Flink, or Kinesis.
• Experience navigating and configuring networking in private cloud environments, including enabling cross-account VPC peering functionality.
• Expert proficiency with modern DevOps practices, particularly designing and implementing robust CI/CD pipelines and leveraging infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform, CDK, or CloudFormation.
• Advanced coding skills in at least two Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) languages, with strong preference for Typescript or Python.
• Exceptional leadership, communication, and collaboration skills, enabling you to effectively influence and partner with engineering and data science stakeholders.
• Experience building and scaling ML platforming solutions (e.g., Databricks, Sagemaker, Vertex AI) integrated into existing cloud infrastructure.

Bonus Points

While not strictly required, the following would make you an even stronger candidate:

• A genuine interest in sports.
• Previous experience within the sports betting industry.
• Hands-on experience building data or ML platforms with a focus on accelerating computing use cases.

Compensation

The target starting base salary range for this position is between $150,000 and $190,000, supplemented by target equity. Your final starting salary will be determined based on a combination of factors, including your skills, experience, and other relevant qualifications.
