The Opportunity: Building the Engine for Community Monetization

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Full-Stack Engineer to be a foundational member of our dedicated Payments Platform team. In this critical role, you will be instrumental in evolving and scaling Circle’s core payments infrastructure.

Your focus will be on the systems that power how our communities generate revenue on Circle. This involves everything from integrating new payment providers to ensuring our checkout flows are robust, secure, and provide a flawless user experience. You’ll own projects from technical design through deployment, leading development, conducting thorough code reviews, and championing best practices for high-quality, reliable systems.

What You’ll Build & Impact:

• Work autonomously across our full stack, utilizing Ruby on Rails for the backend and ReactJS on the frontend.

• Lead complex, high-impact projects end-to-end, making informed decisions on architecture, design, and product direction.

• Integrate, scale, and maintain crucial payment solutions, including major providers like Stripe and PayPal, as well as native in-app options.

• Optimize and scale our checkout experiences to be seamless, reliable, and high-converting for community members.

• Develop and refine core monetization features with a strong focus on delivering product value.

• Collaborate closely with product managers and engineering leadership during feature discovery and design.

• Partner effectively with designers to translate concepts into intuitive and delightful user interfaces.

• Balance rapid iteration with a commitment to technical excellence and outstanding user experience.

What You’ll Bring:

To thrive in this role, you should possess:

• A strong alignment with Circle’s values (we encourage you to explore them on our Careers page!).

• Fluent proficiency in English (spoken, written, and reading) at a CEFR Level C2 / ILR Level 5.

• 5+ years of experience as a full-stack engineer working on complex web applications.

• Strong technical command of our core stack: Ruby on Rails, MySQL/PostgreSQL, ReactJS, TypeScript, CSS/SCSS, and TailwindCSS.

• Deep, hands-on experience integrating and maintaining payment systems (specifically Stripe and PayPal are key) in a production environment, ideally with multiple providers.

• A solid understanding of end-to-end checkout flows, payment processing mechanics, subscription lifecycles, and monetization architecture.

• A genuine drive to understand the business, our users, and their needs to deliver impactful results.

• A preference for working autonomously with high accountability in a fast-paced, sometimes ambiguous environment.

• Adaptability and the ability to quickly pivot when needed.

• Familiarity with agile software development principles.

• Proven experience successfully contributing to a fully distributed remote team.

Bonus Points:

• Experience utilizing advanced Stripe features like Connected Accounts, Invoicing, Subscriptions, or Subscription Schedules.

• Prior experience working on community platforms or creator monetization tools.

Compensation:

The cash compensation range for this role is $130,000 – $140,000 USD per year, dependent on experience. In addition to competitive cash compensation, we offer equity, comprehensive benefits, and perks, with annual salary reviews.
