About the Role: Product Operations Manager (Canada Payroll Focus)
We are seeking a driven Product Operations Manager to join our rapidly expanding payroll SaaS team, with a specialized focus on the Canadian market. This crucial role serves as the vital link between our product vision and operational execution, ensuring our payroll software is not only competitive and efficient but also deeply aligned with the specific needs of Canadian users.
You will collaborate extensively with cross-functional operational teams, including payroll operations, customer support, sales, and account management. Your mission will be to identify system friction points, uncover opportunities for enhancement, and support the successful implementation of product updates tailored for Canada.
Distinct from a traditional Product Manager, this role does not involve direct interface with engineering teams. Instead, you will provide the essential *operational lens* into product development – articulating requirements, designing and refining workflows, and guaranteeing seamless alignment between product features and operational processes. While an understanding of Canada payroll legislation is important, this is *not* a compliance interpretation role. Your focus is on functionality, usability, and process scalability within the product context.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Product Leadership
- Serve as the primary operational steward for the Canada payroll product experience.
- Act as the essential liaison between user-facing operational teams and product management, translating practical business needs into clear, actionable system requirements.
- Design, document, and optimize end-to-end processes to enhance scalability and efficiency for payroll operations within Canada.
Product Feedback & Enhancement Strategy
- Establish and nurture a continuous feedback loop with internal stakeholders (e.g., support, sales, customer success) to proactively identify challenges and gather feature requests.
- Consolidate, analyze, and strategically prioritize enhancement needs based on user impact, business value, and technical feasibility.
- Partner with Product Managers to deliver well-defined product requirements and enhancement proposals.
User Engagement & Insight Generation
- Engage directly with key clients or investigate complex user scenarios to gain deeper insights into use cases, identify unmet needs, and validate potential solutions.
- Champion the ‘voice of the customer’ throughout product discussions and process design decisions.
Project Management & Rollout Coordination
- Lead cross-functional initiatives, including the rollout of new product features and internal process improvements specifically for Canadian payroll.
- Coordinate communication strategies and training efforts for internal teams to ensure successful adoption and utilization of product updates.
Issue Resolution & Process Improvement
- Conduct thorough root cause analysis on recurring operational challenges, identifying systemic opportunities for reducing friction and enhancing user satisfaction.
- Define and implement targeted process changes designed to proactively eliminate identified issues.
What You Bring
Experience
- 5+ years of experience in product operations, product management, or closely related operational roles.
- 5+ years of experience in payroll operations or equivalent roles handling complex payroll processes.
- Solid understanding of Canada payroll legislation and operational best practices.
- Previous experience working with or managing payroll software platforms is essential.
- Proficiency in data analysis, including experience with BI tools (e.g., SQL, Looker, Snowflake, Datadog) and strong command of Excel/Sheets.
- Superior presentation skills with the ability to effectively communicate data-driven insights and recommendations to diverse audiences.
Skills & Competencies
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving capabilities; adept at investigating intricate issues and proposing scalable solutions.
- Excellent stakeholder management and cross-functional communication skills.
- Comfortable and effective working in a high-growth, fast-paced, and dynamic environment.
- Basic technical understanding relevant to software development processes.
- Strong SQL skills.
- Fluent in English. Understanding of French is considered beneficial.
- Fundamentally operationally minded with a strong product-oriented perspective.
- Passionate about the user experience and deeply understanding complex product use cases.
- Proactive, naturally curious, and continuously seeking opportunities to improve systems and processes.
Total Rewards & Benefits
We believe our global workforce deserves fair and competitive compensation that truly meets them where they are. Our scalable total rewards programs, including benefits, rewards, and perks, reflect our commitment to inclusivity and access for all.
Some highlights you’ll enjoy:
- Stock grant opportunities (dependent on role, status, and location).
- Additional perks and benefits tailored to your employment status and country.
- The unparalleled flexibility of remote work, including optional access to WeWork spaces.
Commitment to Diversity & Inclusion
At Deel, we are a proud equal-opportunity employer that values diversity in all its forms. We actively encourage applications from qualified and eligible candidates regardless of race, religion, sex, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, disability status, pregnancy or maternity, or any other legally protected characteristic.
