WordPress VIP, the enterprise division of Automattic and the world’s leading content management platform, is seeking a dynamic Director of Business Development to architect and execute our global BDR strategy. This is a high-impact role reporting directly to the Chief Revenue Officer (CRO), where you will collaborate with marketing, sales, product, and operations teams to fuel our growth engine.

The Opportunity: Director of Business Development

As Director of Business Development, you will be responsible for designing and leading our global BDR strategy, programs, and team. You’ll oversee all BDR functions – from inbound qualification to outbound prospecting – while pioneering the development of the next-generation AI-powered outbound workflow. This role demands a blend of strategic thinking and operational execution, as you establish scalable processes, playbooks, and reporting mechanisms that deliver measurable results.

We seek a proven B2B sales development leader with a passion for building high-performing teams and a forward-thinking mindset to integrate AI, automation, and data into every stage of outbound engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Global BDR Leadership: Own the global BDR function, ensuring both volume and quality of opportunities through effective inbound qualification and outbound prospecting.
  • AI-Driven Outbound Innovation: Develop and implement a cutting-edge AI-driven outbound workflow, encompassing prospect identification, intent-based targeting, personalized messaging, sequencing, and comprehensive reporting.
  • Strategic Partnership: Collaborate with marketing and sales leadership to identify and target optimal customer segments, leveraging AI insights to enhance targeting and drive conversions.
  • Process & Enablement: Build robust frameworks, enablement programs, and processes that empower BDRs to adapt strategies based on real-time market signals and AI-driven intelligence.
  • Forecasting & Performance: Develop accurate forecasting models aligning targets, team capacity, and expected outcomes.
  • Team Management: Manage BDR capacity and productivity to ensure target achievement, providing transparent reporting and dashboards.
  • Talent Development: Recruit, develop, and motivate BDRs to exceed goals through coaching, enablement, and structured career development opportunities.
  • Onboarding & Training: Ensure seamless onboarding and ongoing development of BDR talent, in partnership with sales operations and product marketing.
  • Technology Stack Optimization: Define the blueprint for data, processes, and technology (including Salesforce, Pardot, Outreach, ABM platforms, and emerging AI sales tech) to maximize efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Opportunity Generation: Deliver high-quality and high-volume opportunities in collaboration with sales and marketing, closely monitoring key metrics such as win rate, average order value (AOV), and pipeline attainment.

What You’ll Bring

  • Experience: Proven experience building, leading, and scaling BDR teams of 20+, preferably within SaaS companies.
  • AI Expertise: Demonstrated ability to design AI-powered sales development workflows, including enrichment, lead scoring, personalization, sequencing, and reporting.
  • Methodology & Process: Proven track record of developing methodologies, processes, and operational plans for successful inbound and outbound programs.
  • Leadership Skills: Strong people leadership skills with a passion for recruiting, motivating, and coaching BDR teams to drive results and engagement.
  • Strategic Vision: Ability to balance quick wins with a medium- and long-term blueprint for sustainable BDR effectiveness.
  • Technical Proficiency: Deep knowledge of sales outreach workflows and the role of tools and platforms (including AI-enabled ones) for enablement, reporting, and productivity.
  • Collaboration: Exceptional collaboration skills to partner across marketing, sales, and IT to drive measurable outcomes.

Compensation & Benefits

The salary range for this role is $180,000 – $250,000 USD, plus variable compensation.
