Job Description

Shape the Future of Healthcare Data Exchange as our Director, Infrastructure

Ready to revolutionize healthcare? At Health Gorilla, we believe that unlocking the full potential of health information exchange requires more than just connections; it demands meaningful, reliable data delivered precisely when and where it’s needed.

Founded in 2014, Health Gorilla is a leading force in providing access to actionable patient data. We empower healthcare organizations across the country, supporting diverse clinical use cases and driving better patient outcomes. We partner with innovators in health IT, value-based care, and digital health, including industry leaders like Virta Health, The Garage, and Medhost.

Health Gorilla stands out as one of the original five organizations designated as a Qualified Health Information Network (QHIN) and holds the unique position of being the only QHIN also designated as a Qualified Health Information Organization (QHIO). This places us at the forefront of secure, interoperable health data exchange.

The Opportunity: Director, Infrastructure

We are seeking a visionary and hands-on Director, Infrastructure to lead our core platform operations. Reporting directly to the EVP of Engineering, you will be instrumental in defining and executing the strategic direction for all aspects of our infrastructure – encompassing hardware, software, servers, services, databases, storage solutions, and networks. This critical leadership role is tasked with ensuring 24×7 reliability for our SaaS platform and building a best-in-class operations function that champions a Cloud-first (AWS) approach and embodies DevOps / SRE principles. You will play a pivotal role in enabling our daily operations, supporting our rapid growth, and scaling our capabilities to meet the evolving needs of our clients and the healthcare ecosystem.

What You Will Empower at Health Gorilla

  • Provide strategic leadership and technical direction for the entire platform infrastructure, operations, and IT functions, spanning both cloud-based and physical assets.
  • Continuously evolve and refine our platform infrastructure strategy to proactively support business growth, client scalability requirements, and the demands of high-volume health information exchange.
  • Direct, manage, and actively contribute to the success of the DevOps, SRE (Site Reliability Engineering), DBA (Database Administration), and IT teams.
  • Serve as a technical role model, providing ongoing technical guidance, mentoring direct reports, and personally leading technical analysis and strategic planning for implementing innovative solutions.
  • Lead and actively participate in 24/7 on-call incident response, driving initiatives focused on observability and reliability across our entire technical stack to achieve and maintain 99.9% uptime or higher.
  • Cultivate strong relationships and strategic partnerships with external vendors to optimize our cloud-based operations and infrastructure support.
  • Establish and uphold rigorous Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and Operating Level Agreements (OLAs) that align with our ambitious goals and our customers’ critical needs.

What You Bring to the Role

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in cloud-based platform infrastructure, with significant hands-on contributions in DevOps and SRE roles.
  • At least 2 years of experience successfully managing and leading technical teams.
  • Proven hands-on experience with a combination of core technologies including AWS, Kubernetes, Docker, Mongo, Postgres, Redis, ElasticSearch, ActiveMQ, Beanstalk, Ansible, Terraform, and Linux.
  • Extensive expertise working with Kubernetes tooling and workloads, demonstrating a deep understanding of scaling, monitoring, alerting, disaster recovery strategies, networking, API gateways, and service meshes.
  • Direct experience with cloud-based CI/CD platforms (e.g., Github Actions) and leading Observability platforms (e.g., New Relic, Grafana + Prometheus).
  • Significant experience with DBA operations, including scaling, migrating, restoring, and maintaining very large production databases with near-zero downtime requirements.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., sh, python) and a strong understanding of deploying and running software reliably in demanding production environments under heavy workloads.
  • Experience collaborating closely with SecOps and Security Teams to implement and enforce robust cybersecurity policies across infrastructure assets.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally with business stakeholders, support teams, and software engineering colleagues to deliver a resilient platform and resolve client reliability or implementation challenges.
  • Hands-on experience procuring and managing relationships with third-party external vendors and services.
  • Experience working effectively with Managed Service Providers (MSPs) or IT contracting services for help desk support and security oversight.
  • Proven ability to thrive and deliver results in a fast-paced, dynamic startup environment with quickly evolving requirements and priorities.
