About the Role

We are seeking a talented and driven Generative AI Lead / Principal Python Engineer to join our innovative team focused on developing advanced LLM-based agentic applications. In this pivotal role, you will leverage your deep technical expertise to architect, build, and deploy intelligent, scalable AI solutions that drive innovation across Trimble’s products. You’ll be a hands-on leader, guiding development while contributing directly to code, setting technical direction, and providing insights into the capabilities and potential of emerging Generative AI technologies.

What You’ll Do

As a key member of our team, you will:

• Lead Generative AI Development: Architect, implement, and optimize advanced LLM-based agentic applications. Dive deep into modern AI frameworks like LangChain or LangGraph and master techniques such as Prompt Engineering, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) including advanced methods (chunking, hybrid search, vector DBs, evaluation), and Fine-tuning. You’ll be expected to be highly hands-on, writing production-ready code and shipping features yourself.
• Drive Technical Architecture & Quality: Design and build scalable, resilient software systems following modern principles, including Microservices and Cloud-native patterns. Ensure robust testing strategies (unit, integration, E2E) and leverage CI/CD pipelines (like GitHub Actions) for efficient, reliable deployments. Troubleshoot complex issues and maintain high code quality standards.
• Innovate & Stay Ahead: Continuously explore the latest advancements in Generative AI research (e.g., RLHF, DSPy) and apply cutting-edge techniques to improve our applications and processes. Implement monitoring and observability solutions (e.g., Datadog, Databricks LLM Observability) to ensure application performance and health.
• Collaborate & Mentor: Work closely with product managers, business analysts, and engineering teams across the globe. Share your expertise by mentoring junior engineers on designing, implementing, and deploying sophisticated AI solutions.
• Deliver with Agility: Operate within an Agile framework, planning sprints, managing priorities, and ensuring timely delivery while effectively handling challenges in a fast-paced, global environment.
• Influence Strategy: Provide valuable technical insights and strategic perspectives on the capabilities, risks, and opportunities presented by specific Generative AI technologies to inform decision-making.

What You’ll Bring

The ideal candidate will possess:

• Technical Foundation: Strong command of Python. Proven experience building and deploying Generative AI applications in a production environment (minimum 6 months). Solid understanding of cloud platforms (Azure, AWS), Microservices architecture, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), RESTful APIs, and database systems (NoSQL, PostgreSQL). Proficiency with Git for version control and implementing CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions or similar).
• Problem Solving & Agility: Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to design efficient solutions and troubleshoot complex software issues. Experience working effectively within Agile methodologies (Scrum/Kanban).
• Leadership & Collaboration: Demonstrated leadership and mentoring abilities, guiding and elevating fellow engineers. Strong communication skills, essential for collaborating with global teams and cross-functional stakeholders.
• Risk Management: An understanding of risk assessment and mitigation strategies in software development.
