About the Physical Infrastructure Team

The Physical Infrastructure team is central to realizing our vision for the world’s most advanced AI infrastructure. We set the core strategy and drive implementation, covering everything from site selection to full-scale buildout. Our team operates at the critical intersection of commercial, technical, strategic, and operational domains, requiring deep collaboration with teams and executives across OpenAI and externally.

The Opportunity: Lead Major Infrastructure Projects

We are looking for a highly accomplished individual contributor to take the helm of major project enablement for our critical infrastructure initiatives. This is a pivotal role where you will directly drive the success of complex, large-scale infrastructure projects across our existing operational sites and future expansion locations. Beyond direct execution, you will be instrumental in defining and scaling the Major Projects Enablement function itself, shaping its structure and scope to meet the growing demands of our AI infrastructure buildout.

What You’ll Do

• Directly manage the successful delivery of cornerstone infrastructure projects, specifically focusing on collaborations with hyperscale partners.

• Ensure robust project success for live operational sites and strategically enable expansions into new critical locations.

• Serve as the central liaison coordinating diverse efforts across construction, industrial equipment, networking, and hardware teams.

• Forge strong partnerships with internal stakeholders, external partners, and vendors to achieve aggressive delivery timelines.

• Champion and lead complex, cross-functional stakeholder groups spanning multiple time zones and technical disciplines.

• Craft clear, concise, and impactful executive-level communications and reporting to provide transparency on project status, risks, and achievements.

• Contribute significantly to the strategic vision and organizational development of the Major Projects Enablement function.

What You’ll Bring

• Proven track record with 10+ years managing large-scale, complex infrastructure projects, including significant physical builds.

• Deep understanding of the data center industry ecosystem, backed by 5+ years of direct experience.

• Exceptional executive communication and stakeholder management skills, adept at engaging with internal and external leaders.

• Extensive practical experience across the data center landscape, including construction, industrial equipment, networking, and hardware.

• Demonstrated autonomy and a strong “builder” mentality – comfortable navigating ambiguity, creating structure, and driving results from inception.

• Experience managing intricate relationships and leading communications with strategic partners or complex accounts.

• Ability to successfully oversee multiple large-scale projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

• Experience leading and unifying distributed, cross-functional teams operating across various time zones.

• Solid understanding and fluency with key data center technical concepts.

• Flexibility and willingness to travel (25%+ or as required) to project sites and partner locations.
