The Opportunity: Shape the Future of Healthcare Data

We are seeking a visionary and hands-on Principal Architect to play a pivotal role in defining the long-term technical landscape of our core platform and data architecture. This is a leadership position accountable for translating complex, evolving business needs into a clear, robust, and future-proof architectural vision that scales across multiple product domains and engineering teams.

As a trusted technical advisor, you will guide and influence engineering strategy at the highest levels, partnering closely with senior engineering and product leadership. Your expertise in large-scale distributed systems and big data platforms will be critical in enabling high-performance AI and Analytics workloads.

This role is central to ensuring our technology foundations are secure, reliable, scalable, and maintainable, directly impacting our ability to deliver industry-leading healthcare technology solutions. You’ll not only set the direction but actively contribute to critical design decisions and champion engineering excellence, knowledge sharing, and technical mentorship to elevate the entire organization.

What You’ll Be Doing: Driving Architectural Excellence

  • Define and champion the overarching strategic architectural vision, aligning multiple product and platform teams to meet ambitious business objectives and anticipate future scaling needs.
  • Lead the architecture design for sophisticated, data-intensive platforms, including complex batch and real-time processing systems that power our advanced analytics and AI applications.
  • Collaborate strategically with senior engineering and product leaders to ensure architectural decisions are tightly aligned with organizational priorities and long-term business goals.
  • Transform high-level, often ambiguous business challenges into scalable, reusable platform solutions, expertly navigating trade-offs between speed, scalability, cost, and technical debt.
  • Proactively identify, diagnose, and resolve architectural gaps, system fragility, and scalability bottlenecks across product lines, anticipating future challenges and evolution paths.
  • Oversee end-to-end technical feasibility assessments and architecture reviews, ensuring timely delivery of robust technical designs and providing actionable guidance to unblock execution teams.
  • Influence and govern key architecture decisions through participation in design reviews, architecture boards, and technical strategy discussions.
  • Champion and drive the adoption of modern engineering practices, including microservices, cloud-native patterns (especially on Azure), event-driven systems, and platform thinking.
  • Serve as a mentor and coach for senior architects and engineers, fostering the development of architectural talent and cultivating a culture of engineering excellence throughout the organization.
  • Continuously track and evaluate emerging trends in big data, distributed systems, cloud platforms, and AI infrastructure, assessing their relevance and readiness for adoption within PointClickCare.
  • Own and maintain architecture documentation as a living asset, providing essential guidance and clarity to engineering teams throughout the delivery lifecycle.

What You’ll Bring: Skills and Experience

To excel in this role, you should have:

  • A minimum of 12+ years of progressive experience in software architecture and engineering, with at least 3 years operating at a senior/principal architect or technical leadership level.
  • Demonstrated success in leading architecture for complex, multi-tenant SaaS platforms, with a strong preference for experience involving big data, analytics, and AI workloads.
  • Deep expertise in architecting cloud-native platforms (experience with Azure is highly preferred), including designing scalable compute, data pipelines, observability frameworks, and robust security mechanisms.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of distributed data systems (e.g., Kafka, Spark, Delta Lake), streaming architecture, and real-time event processing patterns.
  • Experience designing platform foundations specifically to support AI/ML workloads, including concepts like model lifecycle management, vector databases, or MLOps.
  • A proven ability to define and execute impactful architecture strategy that drives measurable business outcomes, coupled with strong product thinking skills to “connect the dots” between technology and business value.
  • Exceptional communication, storytelling, and influence skills, capable of driving alignment and understanding at all levels of the organization, including executive stakeholders.
  • Experience leading and mentoring cross-functional teams, coaching senior engineers, and establishing effective architecture governance processes.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making abilities, adept at evaluating complex architectural trade-offs and building consensus among diverse technical groups.
