Job Description
Join Mercury: Shape the Future of Startup Finance
Mercury is building the future of finance for startups, offering a complete, user-friendly banking* stack designed for innovation and growth. To achieve this ambitious goal, we rely on exceptional talent. That’s where you come in.
*Mercury is a financial technology company, not a bank. Banking services are provided by Choice Financial Group, Column N.A., and Evolve Bank & Trust, Members FDIC.
Your Opportunity: Senior Business Recruiter, GRC Focus
We’re seeking a highly strategic and experienced Senior Business Recruiter to join our dynamic, newly formed recruiting team. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in hiring top-tier professionals across our critical Compliance, Risk, Audit, and Legal (GRC) functions. These teams are the backbone of Mercury, ensuring our stability and enabling our rapid scaling.
As an early member of the team, you’ll have the unique opportunity to directly influence our recruiting strategy and operations. You’ll partner closely with leadership and executives across the GRC teams, owning the full-cycle recruiting process for these essential areas of our business. The work done by these individuals is fundamental – quite literally, Mercury couldn’t exist or scale without them.
What You’ll Do: Drive Impact Through Talent Acquisition
You will embed yourself as a trusted hiring partner, going beyond transactional recruiting to truly understand the needs and nuances of the GRC domain within a fintech context. Your responsibilities will include:
- Developing a deep, nuanced understanding of Mercury’s values, brand identity, innovative products, and unique business model.
- Collaborating strategically with hiring managers and interview teams to design effective interview processes, proactively build talent pipelines through networking, meticulously source candidates who align with business needs, and successfully close top talent by articulating Mercury’s compelling story as a leader in the fintech space.
- Helping to define success metrics and best practices for a growing recruiting function, maintaining a high bar for both culture fit and technical expertise to attract and retain best-in-class GRC talent.
- Positioning yourself as a true strategic advisor to the GRC teams by staying ahead of fintech, banking industry, and financial services talent trends, while also building expertise in the U.S. banking and financial regulatory landscape.
- Championing diversity, equity, and inclusion in every aspect of the hiring process, actively advocating for building inclusive teams and guiding hiring managers toward objective, unbiased hiring decisions.
- Employing strategic sourcing techniques across various channels to identify and engage passive and active top talent, ensuring every candidate receives an exceptional experience that reflects Mercury’s culture and values.
- Leading 0 > 1 recruiting initiatives as Mercury expands into new products and markets, requiring you to identify and attract GRC professionals with specialized niche skills and regulatory knowledge.
- Leveraging recruiting data and metrics to analyze performance, identify actionable insights, recommend process improvements, and enhance our overall recruiting effectiveness.
What You’ll Bring: Experience & Expertise
To be successful in this role, you should possess a strong blend of experience, strategic thinking, and genuine passion for building teams:
- Minimum 5+ years of dedicated full-cycle recruiting experience, with 7+ years preferred in a talent acquisition, people operations, or HR function.
- Deep expertise in recruiting for specialized business roles, particularly across Compliance, Risk, Audit, or Legal teams, hiring talent ranging from mid-level individual contributors to senior leadership.
- Proven track record of successfully partnering with and influencing senior-level and executive-level stakeholders as a trusted hiring partner and strategic advisor.
- Exceptional sourcing and networking skills, with the ability to proactively engage relevant talent for both immediate openings and longer-term strategic pipelines, including confidential searches.
- A genuine passion for building diverse, inclusive, and high-performing teams, leading with empathy, kindness, and a strong sense of care for your work and candidates.
- A creative problem-solving mindset, comfortable working within constraints, effectively prioritizing competing demands, and optimizing your workflow through process improvements and leveraging technology.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, demonstrating clarity, precision, and professionalism.
- A strong sense of urgency, ownership, and accountability for your work, with a willingness to support hiring efforts across other areas of the business when needed.
- Hands-on experience with modern ATS (Applicant Tracking Systems) and sourcing platforms such as Greenhouse, LinkedIn Recruiter, Covey, Ashby, Metaview, or similar tools.
