Impact You’ll Make as a Software Engineer

As a Software Engineer at WEX, you’ll play a vital role in developing and maintaining our cutting-edge platform. You will:

• Collaborate within a small, agile team to design, develop, and deploy high-quality software solutions.
• Mentor junior developers, guiding their technical growth at the functional and component architectural levels.
• Take ownership of project outcomes, ensuring they align with team goals and deliver exceptional value.
• Confidently advocate for technical solutions while remaining open to team decisions, even when differing opinions exist.
• Balance the need for speed with the rigor required for working within the highly regulated payments industry.
• Adapt quickly to new technologies and seamlessly transition between diverse tech stacks.
• Contribute to various aspects of the platform, including front-end web code, back-end services, data stores, and infrastructure systems.
• Design and implement scalable, maintainable, and resilient software architectures.

What You’ll Bring

We’re looking for individuals with a strong foundation in software engineering and a passion for continuous learning. The ideal candidate will have:

• Significant and demonstrable software development experience.
• Proficiency in Golang or Java, along with experience with MongoDB, AWS, and Terraform.
• Experience developing internal and external web services.
• Expertise in writing well-formed unit, component, and integration tests, and a deep understanding of the test pyramid.
• A working understanding of at least one modern web framework.
• Experience with both NoSQL and SQL datastores.
• Knowledge of Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) principles.
• Strong critical thinking, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Bonus Points

While not required, the following experiences would be a significant asset:

• Contributions to personal projects or open-source initiatives.
• Experience with systems engineering and automation.
