Senior Manager, Full Stack Engineering: Be a Pioneer in Music and AI

Are you a curious, collaborative, and impact-driven engineer ready to build groundbreaking tools at the intersection of AI and music? As our Senior Manager, Full Stack Engineering, you’ll be a vital early team member, leveraging your experience to shape our product and make a significant impact.

While a deep knowledge of music theory isn’t required, a commitment to ethical and accessible AI training is essential. We’re seeking a team player who thrives in a collaborative, inclusive environment, adapting readily to the ever-evolving landscape of AI. We’re a remote-first team across Canada, gathering in person a minimum of twice a year. Please note that all applicants must reside in and be eligible to work in Canada.

Your Experience:

  • 6-10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including significant full-stack product delivery.
  • Proven ability to own complex features end-to-end, spanning frontend, backend, and data layers.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: high-scale data/real-time systems, media/content platforms, fintech/payments, or B2B marketplaces.
  • Experience collaborating with product/design teams and interfacing with enterprise customers.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience mentoring others, leading design efforts, and influencing engineering standards. (Prior team-lead experience is required; growth path to managing managers available).

Your Tech Stack (Familiarity with):

  • Frontend: React 18, Next.js, Tailwind, Framer Motion, data-viz (D3.js/Chart.js)
  • Backend: Node.js/Express or Python/FastAPI; GraphQL + REST; WebSockets
  • Data: PostgreSQL, MongoDB/DynamoDB; Redis/queue; vector DB (for attribution)
  • Cloud: AWS (AppSync, Amplify/Cognito, S3, CloudFront, Lambda/ECS/EKS)
  • Platform: Multi-tenant architecture, comprehensive audit logging

What You’ll Be Doing:

As Senior Manager, Full Stack Engineering at Musical AI you will be responsible for:

  • Technical Leadership: Drive key architectural decisions for our scalable, multi-tenant platform. Establish and maintain engineering best practices, code standards, CI/CD pipelines, and review processes. Mentor developers, lead technical design reviews, and conduct technical interviews.
  • Core Development (Full-Stack):
    • Frontend (React 18/Next.js): Build intuitive dashboards for rights holders and AI companies. Implement compelling data analytics and visualizations (D3.js/Chart.js or similar). Develop responsive UI systems (Tailwind; component libs) with seamless UX (Framer Motion). Integrate robust authentication and session flows (AWS Amplify/Cognito or equivalent).
    • Backend (Node.js/Express or Python/FastAPI; GraphQL/REST): Design and implement REST/GraphQL APIs for transactions and data access controls. Build secure authentication and role-based multi-tenant authorization. Create powerful reporting engines for usage analytics, royalty calculations, and financial reporting. Implement real-time features (WebSockets/subscriptions) for notifications and messaging. Develop robust file flows for secure audio/metadata upload, download, and delivery.
  • Strategic Planning & Operations: Translate our tech vision into quarterly OKRs, roadmaps, and measurable outcomes. Balance feature velocity with tech-debt management, reliability, and cost-effectiveness. Make informed build-vs-buy decisions for vendors/third-party services and cloud components. Provide data-driven updates to the CEO/executives and actively participate in product strategy.
  • Customer, Compliance & Partnerships: Handle escalations requiring in-depth technical debugging and innovative solutions. Lead security/compliance efforts, including SOC 2, audit logging, data retention, and adherence to industry standards. Collaborate with Legal/Compliance on regulatory requirements within the music/film industry. Manage relationships with cloud providers, GPU vendors, and security auditors.
  • Production Systems & Scale: Design systems capable of handling millions of assets and real-time attribution at scale. Implement robust security measures, observability (metrics/logging/tracing), and incident response protocols. Optimize performance and cost (including GPU, storage, and data egress).

  • Legal/Compliance: Ensure that all security audits and regulatory obligations are met.

  2. Step 2: Technical assessment via Google Meet with Nicolas Gonzalez Thomas to further explore your technical skills and working style.
  3. Step 3: Values Alignment Interview via Google Meet with Sean Power (CEO) and Matt Adell (COO) to discuss your career ambitions and how you envision making an impact at Musical AI.
  4. Step 4: If there is a mutual fit, we’ll move forward with an offer!
