The Opportunity: Lead Engineer for Data & Architecture (Senior Python Developer)

We are actively seeking a highly motivated and skilled Senior Python Developer ready to step into a Team Lead role within our dynamic Engineering team. This pivotal position requires a blend of technical mastery, architectural vision, and leadership capability. You will be at the forefront of expanding our critical media database infrastructure, designing highly scalable systems, and expertly extracting structured data from the vast and constantly evolving landscape of the web through advanced data acquisition techniques.

Your Impact & Key Responsibilities

As our Senior Python Developer & Team Lead, you will:

Lead the design and implementation of highly performant, large-scale web scraping systems engineered to monitor and acquire valuable data from millions of online sources.

Develop and deploy sophisticated strategies and techniques to effectively navigate and bypass challenging anti-scraping mechanisms (such as FunCaptcha, reCAPTCHA, Distil, and Cloudflare) at scale, leveraging cutting-edge open-source solutions.

Architect, optimize, and manage data storage and processing solutions, with a primary focus on systems running on physical hardware. A key objective will be ensuring cost-efficiency while handling the ingestion and management of terabytes of data.

Apply strong architectural principles and software design patterns to ensure the development of clean, maintainable, and highly performant backend systems that stand the test of time.

Provide essential technical leadership, conduct thorough code reviews, and offer insightful mentorship to junior members of the engineering team, fostering growth and best practices.

Ensure the seamless integration of newly acquired data streams with our existing internal data platforms, maintaining data consistency and accessibility for all downstream applications and analytics.

Continuously research, evaluate, and implement new technologies and methodologies to enhance our data acquisition capabilities and proactively overcome evolving web challenges.

What You’ll Bring: Essential Skills & Experience

To thrive in this Senior Python Developer role, you should have:

Demonstrated deep technical expertise and extensive professional experience in Python development.

Significant, up-to-date, and hands-on experience in web scraping at scale, including familiarity with libraries and techniques like Selenium.

Proven experience working with and optimizing infrastructure on physical hardware, combined with a clear understanding of managing costs associated with large-scale data storage and processing (dealing with terabytes).

A strong foundation in and practical application of software design patterns, clean code principles, and a track record of building highly maintainable, scalable, and resilient systems.

Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to independently tackle complex, ambiguous technical challenges effectively.

Prior experience in coaching junior developers and conducting impactful code reviews.

Bonus Points (Nice-to-Haves):

Familiarity with building with AI and utilizing relevant machine learning libraries.

Significant understanding or practical experience with frontend technologies (e.g., React).

Experience with other major cloud providers (AWS, Azure, GCP) beyond physical hardware, particularly understanding their cost implications for data-intensive tasks.
