About the Team

The Android Platform team is dedicated to providing a world-class development experience for Android engineers at Airbnb. Our mission is to empower them to deliver innovative solutions with speed and quality. We tackle challenging problems across a broad spectrum, from building frameworks and tools to enhancing build systems, CI/CD pipelines, testing infrastructure, and IDE integrations. We’re the team behind projects like Trio (an Android framework for Jetpack Compose) and Focus Mode (an Android Studio plugin for boosting IDE performance).

Your Impact

As an Android Engineer, you’ll be a key player in driving projects that significantly boost the productivity of our Android community and unlock exciting new capabilities through innovative frameworks and tools. You’ll play a critical role in the following:

• Collaborating with team members and cross-functional partners to identify opportunities for enhancing developer productivity.
• Leading roadmap projects and delivering high-quality solutions that advance our team’s mission.
• Improving our existing frameworks and build systems to achieve our ambitious vision.

What You’ll Bring

We’re looking for someone with:

• 5-9 years of industry experience building Android apps with Kotlin.
• Solid experience in building frameworks and build systems (using Gradle, Bazel, or similar).
• A deep understanding of dependency injection systems (e.g., Dagger).
• Experience in building code generation tools (annotation processors, KSP, Kotlin compiler plugins).
• Experience working with medium to large-scale codebases.

Bonus points if you have:

• 2+ years of experience using Jetpack Compose.
• Experience building Android Studio / IntelliJ IDEA plugins.
• Experience using Compose for desktop.
• Ability to travel to the San Francisco office for about a week each quarter for team gatherings.

Location & Work Environment

This position is US – Remote Eligible. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites, as agreed to with your manager. Compensation & Benefits

At Airbnb, we invest in our employees. The base pay range for this role is $191,000—$223,000 USD. Actual base pay depends on various factors, including experience, skills, business needs, and market demands. This role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.
