As a vital member of our underwriting team, you’ll play a crucial role in evaluating mortgage loan applications, assessing risk, and ensuring compliance with industry regulations. • Expert Loan Review: You will dive deep into mortgage loan applications, meticulously evaluating creditworthiness, income stability, and the applicant’s capacity to repay.
• In-Depth Financial Analysis: Scrutinize financial documents – pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, and credit reports – with a keen eye to accurately assess an applicant’s financial health.
• Risk Mitigation: Conduct thorough risk assessments, factoring in credit history, debt-to-income ratio, employment stability, and property appraisals, ensuring we adhere to lending regulations and internal policies.
• Navigating Guidelines: You will master and apply lending guidelines, policies, and procedures, including those set by Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA, and VA, to make informed decisions on loan approvals or rejections.
• Clear Communication: Effectively communicate with loan officers, processors, and other stakeholders to gather information, resolve discrepancies, and provide timely updates on loan application statuses.
• Sound Judgement: Exercise your expertise to make well-informed decisions on loan approvals, denials, or conditional approvals, meticulously documenting your reasoning and ensuring consistency in underwriting decisions.
• Champion of Quality: Conduct quality assurance reviews to maintain the highest standards of accuracy and integrity in underwriting decisions and documentation.

What You Bring to the Table:

We’re looking for a highly motivated and experienced individual with a strong understanding of the mortgage lending landscape.

• Education & Experience: A Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related field is preferred, coupled with 5+ years of hands-on experience in mortgage underwriting.
• Regulatory Expertise: A deep understanding of mortgage lending regulations, guidelines, and compliance requirements is essential.
• Analytical Prowess: Exceptional analytical skills are a must, enabling you to evaluate complex financial information with ease.
• Laser Focus: Attention to detail and accuracy are paramount when reviewing loan applications and documentation.
• Communication Mastery: You’ll possess outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal, allowing you to interact professionally with internal and external stakeholders.
• Tech Savvy: Proficiency in using underwriting software and mortgage industry tools is expected.
• Adaptability: The ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines effectively is crucial.
• Income Calculation Expertise: Mastery of income calculations including W2, bonus, commission, OT, Schedule C, Schedule E, 1120, 1120S, 1065.
• AUS Familiarity: Comfortable with Automated Underwriting System (AUS) findings.
• Non-QM Lending Knowledge: Proficiency in income calculations for non-QM lenders such as DSCR, Bank Statements, Asset Depletion.
